Self Cleaning Glass
Glass that is self cleaning has always been described as an impossible dream, on the other hand following an intensive research and development programme by Pilkington who are the world's leading glass manufacturer, otherwise known as Pilkington Activ'.
This special double action uses the force of nature to help to keep the glass free from any dirt, this will not only be a practical benefit of having less cleaning to do but this also means clearer windows and better looking windows for you.
Pilkington Activ was the first ever self-cleaning glass who use, microscopic coating with a unique
dual –action.
The two stages of this process are as follows; firstly photo catalytic this is when the special coating that has been applied to the glass reacts with daylight and breaks down organic dirt. The second stage, hydrophilic this is when rainwater hits the glass and spreads evenly, running off in a "sheet" and taking the loosened dirt with it, this helps to dry it quicker without leaving streaks.
